CHATEAU

The monastery was founded in 1032 by Prince Oldřich and hermit Prokop. Under the administration of the National Institute of Natural History in Prague, you can go on a sightseeing tour of Svatoprokopská Sázava. The pilgrimage site of St. Prokop under the administration of the Roman Catholic parish offers a tour of the Czech patron saint St. Prokop.

The predecessor of the chateau was the Gothic castle Čejchanov, built after 1300, whose disputed remains are preserved about 200 m west of the chateau. The chateau itself, the older part with a rounded facade, was built after the middle of the 16th century by Jan von Wallenstein as a four-winged chateau around an approximately square courtyard.

The upper Gothic castle from the 14th century was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau from the 16th century. In 1675, František Maxmilián of Talmberk built the castle with the participation of the builder O. de Guarde. Today, it houses a museum with many exhibitions, an information centre and the Chateau Schenk.

At the beginning of the 18th century the original fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau. The chateau is currently closed to the public and houses a hospital for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
