Style of architecture Baroque

At the beginning of the 18th century the original fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau. The chateau is currently closed to the public and houses a hospital for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The first mention of Ostředek appears in historical sources in the middle of the 14th century. There was a fortress built by the landowner Slávek of Ostředek. The fortress and the village changed hands frequently. In the 15th century, the brothers Zdeněk and Mojek from Ostředek, later their descendants Chobotský from Ostředek, Bořita and Lipolt from Malovice, Habart from Čeňovice and others lived here. In the early 18th century, under the Mladotas of Solopysk, the original fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau, which was further modified in 1739 and 1764. It is a two-storey rectangular building with a chapel, which houses the statue of Bohemia exhibited at the World Expo in Montreal.

Today, the chateau is located in the middle of the village, serves as a treatment centre for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and is not open to the public. Services are held only occasionally in the private chapel.

The writer Svatopluk Čech was born here in 1846. Visitors can see his birthplace with a permanent exhibition about his life and work. Above the main entrance of the chateau there is a memorial plaque of this important writer.
